Isaiah 11
- 1<pb/><t>A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;</t> <t>from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.</t>
- 2<t>The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—</t> <t>the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,</t> <t>the Spirit of counsel and of might,</t> <t>the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—</t>
- 3<t>and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. <pb/>He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,</t> <t>or decide by what he hears with his ears;</t>
- 4<t>but with righteousness he will judge the needy,</t> <t>with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.</t> <t>He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;</t> <t>with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.</t>
- 5<t>Righteousness will be his belt</t> <t>and faithfulness the sash around his waist. <pb/></t>
- 6<t>The wolf will live with the lamb,</t> <t>the leopard will lie down with the goat,</t> <t>the calf and the lion and the yearling<f>[29]</f> together;</t> <t>and a little child will lead them.</t>
- 7<t>The cow will feed with the bear,</t> <t>their young will lie down together,</t> <t>and the lion will eat straw like the ox.</t>
- 8<t>The infant will play near the cobra’s den,</t> <t>and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.</t>
- 9<t>They will neither harm nor destroy</t> <t>on all my holy mountain,</t> <t>for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD</t> <t>as the waters cover the sea.</t>
- 10<pb/>In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.
- 11In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush,<f>[30]</f> from Elam, from Babylonia,<f>[31]</f> from Hamath and from the islands of the Mediterranean.
- 12<pb/><t>He will raise a banner for the nations</t> <t>and gather the exiles of Israel;</t> <t>he will assemble the scattered people of Judah</t> <t>from the four quarters of the earth.</t>
- 13<t>Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish,</t> <t>and Judah’s enemies<f>[32]</f> will be destroyed;</t> <t>Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,</t> <t>nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.</t>
- 14<t>They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west;</t> <t>together they will plunder the people to the east.</t> <t>They will subdue Edom and Moab,</t> <t>and the Ammonites will be subject to them.</t>
- 15<t>The LORD will dry up</t> <t>the gulf of the Egyptian sea;</t> <t>with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand</t> <t>over the Euphrates River.</t> <t>He will break it up into seven streams</t> <t>so that anyone can cross over in sandals.</t>
- 16<t>There will be a highway for the remnant of his people</t> <t>that is left from Assyria,</t> <t>as there was for Israel</t> <t>when they came up from Egypt.</t>
