Habakkuk 3
- 1<pb/><e>A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth</e>.<f>[9]</f>
- 2<pb/><t>LORD, I have heard of your fame;</t> <t>I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD.</t> <t>Repeat them in our day,</t> <t>in our time make them known;</t> <t>in wrath remember mercy. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>God came from Teman,</t> <t>the Holy One from Mount Paran.<f>[10]</f></t> <t>His glory covered the heavens</t> <t>and his praise filled the earth.</t>
- 4<t>His splendor was like the sunrise;</t> <t>rays flashed from his hand,</t> <t>where his power was hidden.</t>
- 5<t>Plague went before him;</t> <t>pestilence followed his steps.</t>
- 6<t>He stood, and shook the earth;</t> <t>he looked, and made the nations tremble.</t> <t>The ancient mountains crumbled</t> <t>and the age-old hills collapsed—</t> <t>but he marches on forever.</t>
- 7<t>I saw the tents of Cushan in distress,</t> <t>the dwellings of Midian in anguish. <pb/></t>
- 8<t>Were you angry with the rivers, LORD?</t> <t>Was your wrath against the streams?</t> <t>Did you rage against the sea</t> <t>when you rode your horses</t> <t>and your chariots to victory?</t>
- 9<t>You uncovered your bow,</t> <t>you called for many arrows.</t> <t>You split the earth with rivers;</t>
- 10<t>the mountains saw you and writhed.</t> <t>Torrents of water swept by;</t> <t>the deep roared</t> <t>and lifted its waves on high. <pb/></t>
- 11<t>Sun and moon stood still in the heavens</t> <t>at the glint of your flying arrows,</t> <t>at the lightning of your flashing spear.</t>
- 12<t>In wrath you strode through the earth</t> <t>and in anger you threshed the nations.</t>
- 13<t>You came out to deliver your people,</t> <t>to save your anointed one.</t> <t>You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness,</t> <t>you stripped him from head to foot.</t>
- 14<t>With his own spear you pierced his head</t> <t>when his warriors stormed out to scatter us,</t> <t>gloating as though about to devour</t> <t>the wretched who were in hiding.</t>
- 15<t>You trampled the sea with your horses,</t> <t>churning the great waters. <pb/></t>
- 16<t>I heard and my heart pounded,</t> <t>my lips quivered at the sound;</t> <t>decay crept into my bones,</t> <t>and my legs trembled.</t> <t>Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity</t> <t>to come on the nation invading us.</t>
- 17<t>Though the fig tree does not bud</t> <t>and there are no grapes on the vines,</t> <t>though the olive crop fails</t> <t>and the fields produce no food,</t> <t>though there are no sheep in the pen</t> <t>and no cattle in the stalls,</t>
- 18<t>yet I will rejoice in the LORD,</t> <t>I will be joyful in God my Savior. <pb/></t>
- 19<t>The Sovereign LORD is my strength;</t> <t>he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,</t> <t>he enables me to tread on the heights. <pb/>For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.</t>
