Genesis 10
- 1<pb/>This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah’s sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.
- 2<pb/><t>The sons<f>[38]</f> of Japheth: <pb/>Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshek and Tiras. <pb/></t>
- 3<t>The sons of Gomer: <pb/>Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. <pb/></t>
- 4<t>The sons of Javan: <pb/>Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites and the Rodanites.<f>[39]</f></t>
- 5<t>(From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.) <pb/></t>
- 6<t>The sons of Ham: <pb/>Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan. <pb/></t>
- 7<t>The sons of Cush: <pb/>Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteka. <pb/>The sons of Raamah: <pb/>Sheba and Dedan.</t>
- 8<pb/>Cush was the father<f>[40]</f> of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.
- 9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
- 10The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in<f>[41]</f> Shinar.<f>[42]</f>
- 11From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir,<f>[43]</f> Calah
- 12and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah—which is the great city.
- 13<pb/><t>Egypt was the father of <pb/>the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,</t>
- 14<t>Pathrusites, Kasluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites. <pb/></t>
- 15<t>Canaan was the father of <pb/>Sidon his firstborn,<f>[44]</f> and of the Hittites,</t>
- 16<t>Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,</t>
- 17<t>Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,</t>
- 18<t>Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites.</t> <pb/>Later the Canaanite clans scattered
- 19and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.
- 20<pb/>These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
- 21<pb/>Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was<f>[45]</f> Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber.
- 22<pb/><t>The sons of Shem: <pb/>Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. <pb/></t>
- 23<t>The sons of Aram: <pb/>Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.<f>[46]</f> <pb/></t>
- 24<t>Arphaxad was the father of<f>[47]</f> Shelah, <pb/>and Shelah the father of Eber. <pb/></t>
- 25<t>Two sons were born to Eber: <pb/>One was named Peleg,<f>[48]</f> because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. <pb/></t>
- 26<t>Joktan was the father of <pb/>Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,</t>
- 27<t>Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,</t>
- 28<t>Obal, Abimael, Sheba,</t>
- 29<t>Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.</t>
- 30<pb/>The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
- 31<pb/>These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.
- 32<pb/>These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
