Ezekiel 7

  1. 1<pb/>The word of the LORD came to me:
  2. 2“Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: <pb/><t>“ ‘The end! The end has come</t> <t>upon the four corners of the land!</t>
  3. 3<t>The end is now upon you,</t> <t>and I will unleash my anger against you.</t> <t>I will judge you according to your conduct</t> <t>and repay you for all your detestable practices.</t>
  4. 4<t>I will not look on you with pity;</t> <t>I will not spare you.</t> <t>I will surely repay you for your conduct</t> <t>and for the detestable practices among you.</t> <pb/>“ ‘Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
  5. 5<pb/>“This is what the Sovereign LORD says: <pb/><t>“ ‘Disaster! Unheard-of<f>[12]</f> disaster!</t> <t>See, it comes!</t>
  6. 6<t>The end has come!</t> <t>The end has come!</t> <t>It has roused itself against you.</t> <t>See, it comes!</t>
  7. 7<t>Doom has come upon you,</t> <t>upon you who dwell in the land.</t> <t>The time has come! The day is near!</t> <t>There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.</t>
  8. 8<t>I am about to pour out my wrath on you</t> <t>and spend my anger against you.</t> <t>I will judge you according to your conduct</t> <t>and repay you for all your detestable practices.</t>
  9. 9<t>I will not look on you with pity;</t> <t>I will not spare you.</t> <t>I will repay you for your conduct</t> <t>and for the detestable practices among you.</t> <pb/>“ ‘Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes you.
  10. 10<pb/><t>“ ‘See, the day!</t> <t>See, it comes!</t> <t>Doom has burst forth,</t> <t>the rod has budded,</t> <t>arrogance has blossomed!</t>
  11. 11<t>Violence has arisen,<f>[13]</f></t> <t>a rod to punish the wicked.</t> <t>None of the people will be left,</t> <t>none of that crowd—</t> <t>none of their wealth,</t> <t>nothing of value.</t>
  12. 12<t>The time has come!</t> <t>The day has arrived!</t> <t>Let not the buyer rejoice</t> <t>nor the seller grieve,</t> <t>for my wrath is on the whole crowd.</t>
  13. 13<t>The seller will not recover</t> <t>the property that was sold—</t> <t>as long as both buyer and seller live.</t> <t>For the vision concerning the whole crowd</t> <t>will not be reversed.</t> <t>Because of their sins, not one of them</t> <t>will preserve their life. <pb/></t>
  14. 14<t>“ ‘They have blown the trumpet,</t> <t>they have made all things ready,</t> <t>but no one will go into battle,</t> <t>for my wrath is on the whole crowd.</t>
  15. 15<t>Outside is the sword;</t> <t>inside are plague and famine.</t> <t>Those in the country</t> <t>will die by the sword;</t> <t>those in the city</t> <t>will be devoured by famine and plague.</t>
  16. 16<t>The fugitives who escape</t> <t>will flee to the mountains.</t> <t>Like doves of the valleys,</t> <t>they will all moan,</t> <t>each for their own sins.</t>
  17. 17<t>Every hand will go limp;</t> <t>every leg will be wet with urine.</t>
  18. 18<t>They will put on sackcloth</t> <t>and be clothed with terror.</t> <t>Every face will be covered with shame,</t> <t>and every head will be shaved. <pb/></t>
  19. 19<t>“ ‘They will throw their silver into the streets,</t> <t>and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean.</t> <t>Their silver and gold</t> <t>will not be able to deliver them</t> <t>in the day of the LORD’s wrath.</t> <t>It will not satisfy their hunger</t> <t>or fill their stomachs,</t> <t>for it has caused them to stumble into sin.</t>
  20. 20<t>They took pride in their beautiful jewelry</t> <t>and used it to make their detestable idols.</t> <t>They made it into vile images;</t> <t>therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.</t>
  21. 21<t>I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners</t> <t>and as loot to the wicked of the earth,</t> <t>who will defile it.</t>
  22. 22<t>I will turn my face away from the people,</t> <t>and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure.</t> <t>They will enter it</t> <t>and will defile it. <pb/></t>
  23. 23<t>“ ‘Prepare chains!</t> <t>For the land is full of bloodshed,</t> <t>and the city is full of violence.</t>
  24. 24<t>I will bring the most wicked of nations</t> <t>to take possession of their houses.</t> <t>I will put an end to the pride of the mighty,</t> <t>and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.</t>
  25. 25<t>When terror comes,</t> <t>they will seek peace in vain.</t>
  26. 26<t>Calamity upon calamity will come,</t> <t>and rumor upon rumor.</t> <t>They will go searching for a vision from the prophet,</t> <t>priestly instruction in the law will cease,</t> <t>the counsel of the elders will come to an end.</t>
  27. 27<t>The king will mourn,</t> <t>the prince will be clothed with despair,</t> <t>and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.</t> <t>I will deal with them according to their conduct,</t> <t>and by their own standards I will judge them.</t> <pb/>“ ‘Then they will know that I am the LORD.’ ”
