Deuteronomy 33

  1. 1<pb/>This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.
  2. 2He said: <pb/><t>“The LORD came from Sinai</t> <t>and dawned over them from Seir;</t> <t>he shone forth from Mount Paran.</t> <t>He came with<f>[46]</f> myriads of holy ones</t> <t>from the south, from his mountain slopes.<f>[47]</f></t>
  3. 3<t>Surely it is you who love the people;</t> <t>all the holy ones are in your hand.</t> <t>At your feet they all bow down,</t> <t>and from you receive instruction,</t>
  4. 4<t>the law that Moses gave us,</t> <t>the possession of the assembly of Jacob.</t>
  5. 5<t>He was king over Jeshurun<f>[48]</f></t> <t>when the leaders of the people assembled,</t> <t>along with the tribes of Israel. <pb/></t>
  6. 6<t>“Let Reuben live and not die,</t> <t>nor<f>[49]</f> his people be few.”</t>
  7. 7<pb/>And this he said about Judah: <pb/><t>“Hear, LORD, the cry of Judah;</t> <t>bring him to his people.</t> <t>With his own hands he defends his cause.</t> <t>Oh, be his help against his foes!”</t>
  8. 8<pb/>About Levi he said: <pb/><t>“Your Thummim and Urim belong</t> <t>to your faithful servant.</t> <t>You tested him at Massah;</t> <t>you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.</t>
  9. 9<t>He said of his father and mother,</t> <t>‘I have no regard for them.’</t> <t>He did not recognize his brothers</t> <t>or acknowledge his own children,</t> <t>but he watched over your word</t> <t>and guarded your covenant.</t>
  10. 10<t>He teaches your precepts to Jacob</t> <t>and your law to Israel.</t> <t>He offers incense before you</t> <t>and whole burnt offerings on your altar.</t>
  11. 11<t>Bless all his skills, LORD,</t> <t>and be pleased with the work of his hands.</t> <t>Strike down those who rise against him,</t> <t>his foes till they rise no more.”</t>
  12. 12<pb/>About Benjamin he said: <pb/><t>“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him,</t> <t>for he shields him all day long,</t> <t>and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.”</t>
  13. 13<pb/>About Joseph he said: <pb/><t>“May the LORD bless his land</t> <t>with the precious dew from heaven above</t> <t>and with the deep waters that lie below;</t>
  14. 14<t>with the best the sun brings forth</t> <t>and the finest the moon can yield;</t>
  15. 15<t>with the choicest gifts of the ancient mountains</t> <t>and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills;</t>
  16. 16<t>with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness</t> <t>and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush.</t> <t>Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,</t> <t>on the brow of the prince among<f>[50]</f> his brothers.</t>
  17. 17<t>In majesty he is like a firstborn bull;</t> <t>his horns are the horns of a wild ox.</t> <t>With them he will gore the nations,</t> <t>even those at the ends of the earth.</t> <t>Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim;</t> <t>such are the thousands of Manasseh.”</t>
  18. 18<pb/>About Zebulun he said: <pb/><t>“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,</t> <t>and you, Issachar, in your tents.</t>
  19. 19<t>They will summon peoples to the mountain</t> <t>and there offer the sacrifices of the righteous;</t> <t>they will feast on the abundance of the seas,</t> <t>on the treasures hidden in the sand.”</t>
  20. 20<pb/>About Gad he said: <pb/><t>“Blessed is he who enlarges Gad’s domain!</t> <t>Gad lives there like a lion,</t> <t>tearing at arm or head.</t>
  21. 21<t>He chose the best land for himself;</t> <t>the leader’s portion was kept for him.</t> <t>When the heads of the people assembled,</t> <t>he carried out the LORD’s righteous will,</t> <t>and his judgments concerning Israel.”</t>
  22. 22<pb/>About Dan he said: <pb/><t>“Dan is a lion’s cub,</t> <t>springing out of Bashan.”</t>
  23. 23<pb/>About Naphtali he said: <pb/><t>“Naphtali is abounding with the favor of the LORD</t> <t>and is full of his blessing;</t> <t>he will inherit southward to the lake.”</t>
  24. 24<pb/>About Asher he said: <pb/><t>“Most blessed of sons is Asher;</t> <t>let him be favored by his brothers,</t> <t>and let him bathe his feet in oil.</t>
  25. 25<t>The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze,</t> <t>and your strength will equal your days. <pb/></t>
  26. 26<t>“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,</t> <t>who rides across the heavens to help you</t> <t>and on the clouds in his majesty.</t>
  27. 27<t>The eternal God is your refuge,</t> <t>and underneath are the everlasting arms.</t> <t>He will drive out your enemies before you,</t> <t>saying, ‘Destroy them!’</t>
  28. 28<t>So Israel will live in safety;</t> <t>Jacob will dwell<f>[51]</f> secure</t> <t>in a land of grain and new wine,</t> <t>where the heavens drop dew.</t>
  29. 29<t>Blessed are you, Israel!</t> <t>Who is like you,</t> <t>a people saved by the LORD?</t> <t>He is your shield and helper</t> <t>and your glorious sword.</t> <t>Your enemies will cower before you,</t> <t>and you will tread on their heights.”</t>
